Threats to blow up Planet Fitness stores in Alabama have been made.

Bomb threats were made against Alabama Planet Fitness locations, which prompted the Mobile FBI to lead evacuations. The Planet Fitness in Fairhope and the nearby businesses were evacuated after receiving a bomb threat.

In addition to some Planet Fitness facilities, Daphne and Mobile sites were also impacted by the threat. Similar threats have been made against Planet Fitness locations across the country in recent weeks, according to authorities.

The social media posts from the account “Libs of TikTok,” which have criticized Planet Fitness’s treatment of transgender people, are thought to be the source of these threats. These threats are said to have been sparked by the account’s demand for a boycott of Planet Fitness because of its inclusive restroom policy.

Although Chaya Raichik, the owner of the account, maintains that she is not responsible for the threats, prior occurrences point to a pattern of harassment that occurs when the account posts. Similar threats were made against a dog shelter in Huntsville in 2022 when it was brought up on Libs of TikTok in connection with a “Drag Queen Story Hour.”

There have also been bomb threats made against Planet Fitness locations in Florida, Michigan, and Connecticut; according to Media Matters, a nonprofit media watchdog, at least 17 threats have been made countrywide.

The FBI conducted a thorough check, but they were unable to find any explosives, therefore the Fairhope location has since resumed operations.
