Democrats Present Bill to Name Miami Prison in Trump’s Honor

Read Time:1 Minute, 21 Second

Today, a group of House Democrats proposed renaming a federal prison in Miami after the former president of the United States, Donald Trump.

The action is thought to be in response to a plan that a number of House Republicans have put out to rename Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C. after the outgoing president and likely GOP presidential nominee.

Renaming the Miami Federal Correctional Institution in Florida the “Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution” is the goal of the two-page bill.

Reps. John Garamendi (D-Calif.), Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), and Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) are the ones introducing this bill.

Opponents contend that this is a deliberate attempt to highlight the 91 state and federal criminal accusations against Trump that are spread across four cases, one of which is on his handling of secret documents at his Mar-a-Lago club.

Additionally, the action is being taken during a congressional session in which little legislation has been passed outside of bills for basic government funding.

Connolly said, “I suggested renaming a federal jail would be a more appropriate alternative when our Republican colleagues filed their measure to rename Dulles after Donald Trump. There’s no need for me to wait. I’m hoping that our Republican allies will stand with us in giving Donald J. Trump the one award he truly deserves.”

As a public servant, I just want to help the former president,” Moskowitz continued. “Everyone knows President Trump loves to write his name in gold letters on all his buildings, but he’s never had his name on a federal building before.” Please assist us in realizing that dream.”
