Since 2010, when Apple introduced its first A4 chip in the iPhone 4 and iPad, the company has continuously advanced its chip technology. This evolution has led to the latest M4 Pro and M4 Max processors, specifically engineered for Mac computers.
According to Millet, while architecture, design, and process technology form the foundation, the real breakthrough comes from their integrated development approach. Teams working on chip design collaborate closely with product designers, creating what Millet calls their “secret weapon.”

Apple demonstrated its commitment to domestic production in 2022 when Tim Cook revealed plans to source chips from TSMC’s Arizona facility. This decision aligns with the federal CHIPS Act’s $52.7 billion investment in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing.
