Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, marking a significant step toward de-escalation in the ongoing conflict. The breakthrough comes as President Donald Trump lifts a temporary pause on military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the ceasefire after high-level talks with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia. “Today, we’ve made an offer that the Ukrainians have accepted, which is to enter into a ceasefire and immediate negotiations to end this conflict sustainably,” Rubio stated.
The U.S. will resume security assistance and intelligence sharing, reinforcing its commitment to Ukraine’s stability. A joint document released by Trump’s administration highlighted plans to finalize a minerals deal aimed at boosting Ukraine’s economy and ensuring long-term prosperity.
Rubio emphasized the urgency of peace, stating, “This is serious. Today, people will die in this war, they died yesterday, and sadly, they’ll die tomorrow.” National Security Adviser Mike Waltz echoed the sentiment, calling Trump a “president of peace.”
