Declaring a state of emergency, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens did so following two days of trying to fix multiple water main breaks, including two major ones.

The city was significantly affected by the interruptions at the beginning of the weekend, which led to the cancellation of performances, the closing of venues, and the temporary closure of businesses. Along with many other problems, low water pressure has made it difficult for locals to access safe drinking water and flush toilets.

Mayor Dickens may move more swiftly than usual to put rules into place and acquire materials, equipment, and resources thanks to the state of emergency proclamation. As a precaution, a boil water advisory is still in effect for some areas of the city.

A significant water main break at Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and James P. Brawley Drive in Atlanta’s Mechanicsville neighborhood was successfully fixed as of Saturday night. The city as a whole was affected greatly by this break.

Another large water main break at 11th Street and West Peachtree Street, which has impacted residences and businesses in Midtown Atlanta, is currently being repaired. Although this repair is more “complicated,” according to Mayor Dickens, teams are working nonstop to find a solution.

The city’s access to resources will be accelerated under the state of emergency. Together with the Georgia Department of Emergency Management (GEMA), the city is working to restore the city’s water supply, and Mayor Dickens thanked the state for its assistance.

In order to guarantee seamless operations, city officials have communicated with hospitals in the metro Atlanta area and have also visited senior living facilities. On Sunday morning, they anticipate receiving 100 pallets of potable water that are prepared for distribution.
