The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced a significant £500 million infusion into the Household Support Fund in response to the growing difficulties caused by rising living expenses. English councils will administer an extra £421 million under this initiative over a six-month period starting in April. In order to represent the impact of the cost of living problem across the country, councils in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will also get similar allocations.
Following lobbying by Members of the Work and Pensions Committee, who highlighted the Fund’s importance as a vital safety net for people who might not have been eligible for prior cost of living payments, the Household Support Fund was decided to be extended.
