The United States and the United Kingdom have put off making a choice about whether to give Ukraine long-range weapons. Instead, they will talk about it at the UN General Assembly in New York in September. After meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer revealed the delay, saying that there were still worries about things getting worse.
Ukraine can only use U.S. weapons with a range of 77 kilometres right now. ATACMS missiles have a range of 300 kilometres and could be used to attack important military sites inside Russia. Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, said that letting Ukraine use these kinds of weapons would make the conflict worse and bring NATO straight into the war, which would drastically change its path. Putin told us, “This would mean that NATO countries are at war with Russia.”
This choice is very important because it could have a big effect on how the war in Ukraine is going.
