Prince William and Kate Middleton, the well-liked Prince and Princess of Wales, may soon be moving to a new royal home. The couple moved to Adelaide Cottage in 2022 after living at Kensington Palace for many years. They are allegedly looking for more room. For their three older children, Prince George (11 years old), Princess Charlotte (9 years old), and Prince Louis (6 years old), they need a bigger home.
However, everyone wants to know: where will the royal family move next? Even though Royal Lodge, a huge house with 31 rooms, seems like a good choice, it is currently in bad shape. That being said, the Prince and Princess of Wales have gotten used to the comfort and privacy of Adelaide Cottage, which makes the thought of moving to a much bigger home scary.
Why Royal Lodge Doesn’t Fit…
Royal Lodge is in Windsor Great Park and has a history with Prince Andrew. He has lived there since 2004. But new reports say that King Charles III wants to cut back on Prince Andrew’s security team. This makes people wonder what will happen to the land in the future. It might have been nice for William, Kate, and their kids to move into Royal Lodge, but the huge repairs that need to be done to make the house habitable again have made the choice less clear.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have liked how cosy and family-friendly Adelaide Cottage is. It is a four-bedroom house that is close to the kids’ school, Lambrook, but not too close. Moving to a much bigger house with 31 rooms would mean big changes in the couple’s life, which they might not want to make.
Frogmore Cottage: An Unpopular Choice
Frogmore Cottage is another possible choice. The house has been empty since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the U.K. The cottage was a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The couple paid for major repairs to the house. In spite of this, William and Kate probably won’t think about moving there.
GB News reporter Anne Diamond recently spoke out about the situation. She said that the split between the two royal families is too deep for the Wales family to even think about moving into a home that Meghan Markle redesigned. Diamond said, “It’s a big place.” However, if Meghan and Harry redone it, I don’t think Kate would want to move into a place that Meghan planned and redone, not William either.
Harry and Meghan used to be very proud of Frogmore Cottage. It was a new beginning for them as they started their married life. They had hoped to keep it as their home in the UK, even after they stopped being royal. Many people thought it was harsh of King Charles III to kick the Sussexes out of the house after the release of their Netflix special, “Harry & Meghan,” and Harry’s explosive book, “Spare.”
It was hard for the Sussexes to get along with King Charles.
Harry was very upset when he was kicked out of Frogmore Cottage. He said he was surprised by his father’s choice. A royal author named Tom Quinn told the Mirror that the Sussexes thought they could keep Frogmore as a home in the U.K., even if they only came back for short stays every year. “That assumption tells you a lot about how disconnected King Charles and his son had become,” Quinn said.
The author also called the move “venomous,” and it has been said that Harry was “furious and in tears” over losing the house. The Sussexes already had a rough relationship with the rest of the royal family. This move made things even worse. King Charles has been criticised for how he handled the situation.
What Will Happen to Frogmore Cottage?
Since Frogmore Cottage is now empty, King Charles doesn’t know what to do with the land. The queen or prince has said that they want to cut back on the royal spending, so they may need to find an answer soon. Leaving the house empty is not a good idea, especially since it is in a great spot on the grounds of Windsor.
If neither Prince Andrew nor the Wales family wants to move into Frogmore, the King might have to think of other ways to use the land. It’s possible to rent it out to someone who isn’t royal, but because of the cottage’s famous past and position, it would probably be hard to do.

There is one thing that is clear: the Prince and Princess of Wales will not make a snap choice about where to move next. William and Kate have always put the safety and protection of their children first, and any move they make will have to reflect those beliefs.
