YouTube Introduces New Budget-Friendly Premium Tier in Select Markets

Read Time:49 Second

YouTube is piloting a revised version of its Premium Lite subscription, targeting users in Australia, Germany, and Thailand. This new mid-range offering provides reduced ad exposure at approximately half the cost of a standard Premium subscription.

The refreshed Premium Lite differs from its discontinued predecessor, which offered complete ad removal before ending in October 2023. Under the new model, subscribers can enjoy ad-free viewing on most content, though they’ll still encounter advertisements during music playback, YouTube Shorts, and while navigating the platform.

In Australia, the service is being tested at roughly $9 monthly, representing significant savings compared to the full Premium subscription at $17. While Premium Lite excludes features like offline downloads and background playback, it presents an attractive option for viewers primarily interested in reducing ad interruptions.

This intermediate tier arrives as YouTube’s standard Premium rates have increased to $14 for individual plans and $23 for family subscriptions, potentially filling a crucial price gap in the platform’s subscription lineup.
