X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has added Twitch to its ongoing legal battle against advertisers. On Monday, X amended its lawsuit in a Wichita Falls, Texas, federal court to include the Amazon-owned streaming platform as a defendant.
X accuses Twitch of ceasing ad purchases on its platform in late 2022 as part of a coordinated advertising boycott. The lawsuit alleges that Twitch, along with other companies, conspired through the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) and its Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) to withhold significant ad revenue from X.
The complaint claims this boycott violated federal antitrust laws, with X seeking a jury trial to resolve the matter. Notably, GARM disbanded just two days after X initially filed the lawsuit.
The case, first brought forward in August, also names WFA, Mars Incorporated, CVS, and Ørsted A/S, accusing them of collectively inflicting billions of dollars in losses on the platform.
Additionally, X is pursuing separate legal action against Media Matters, following a report that claimed X displayed ads alongside antisemitic content.
This escalating legal dispute underscores the platform’s struggles with advertiser relations and efforts to reclaim lost revenue amid mounting challenges.
