A woman was tragically stabbed in the neck on a Metro train in the Studio City region this morning, causing tragedy. Before the victim got off the train at the Universal/Studio City station, the event happened on the train at about five in the morning. Authorities emphasized that the attack occurred while the train was in motion, contrary to initial accounts that stated it happened as she was getting off.
According to detective Meghan Aguilar, “The attack happened on the train. Between the previous stop and this station here in Universal City.” The woman survived the terrifying incident and was able to exit the train with her attacker before passing away in a hospital from her wounds. Her name is still unknown, however she has been identified as a woman in her 50s.
A few blocks from the location, near the Ventura/Vineland bus terminal, police officers arrested a man shortly after the event. Authorities have serious suspicions that the suspect, whose identity is still unknown, was involved in the stabbing.
Significantly, no prior altercations were reported, suggesting that the attack was probably a random act of violence. The Universal/Studio City Metro station has been closed in reaction to the event and will remain closed until further notice.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to call the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 222-TIPS as the investigation is still underway.
