The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a blow on Saturday, losing 128-121 to the Golden State Warriors after a fierce struggle that was exacerbated by an injury to their top player.

Anthony Davis, a key player in the Lakers lineup, was forced to leave the game early in the first quarter, which marked the beginning of the team’s problems. After unintentionally touching his eye while driving past Warriors youngster Trayce Jackson-Davis, Davis suffered an eye contusion. Davis quickly fled the floor, making it obvious that he was uncomfortable, and the Lakers’ roster suffered as a result.

The Lakers have an uphill battle against the Warriors with Davis out of the game. Even though the Lakers were ahead 36–30 when Davis left, they were unable to sustain their lead. For the duration of the game, the Warriors outscored the Lakers 98-85, taking advantage of Davis’s absence. Notably, despite being scoreless at the time of Davis’s injury, Stephen Curry led the Warriors’ offensive assault with an outstanding 31-point effort.

LeBron James performed excellently for the Lakers despite the loss, taking on an even bigger responsibility without Davis. James demonstrated his skill on the court by scoring an astounding 40 points on 15 of 23 shots, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out nine assists. But Davis’s absence clearly affected the Lakers’ overall performance—he finished with eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in just 12 minutes of action.

Although Davis’s injury definitely changed the game’s momentum, the teams still had to contend with other difficulties. A shot clock error that occurred at a pivotal point in the fourth quarter caused an astounding 16-minute delay over just 15 seconds of gameplay. The last two minutes of the game took an incredible 23 minutes and 27 seconds to finish due to this unanticipated disturbance.
