Users can now add songs to their Instagram profiles, just like they could on MySpace.

A surprise move that makes me miss the mid-2000s, Instagram has added a new feature that lets users add a song to their page, making me think of the good old days of MySpace. Like a blast from the past, this update makes me think of when MySpace ruled the social media world and users could express themselves through music songs on their accounts.

Instagram, which is now one of the most popular social networks in the world, has taken some ideas from Myspace, which was popular long before Instagram. In a strange way, the rise of Meta, the company that owns Instagram, led to the fall of Myspace. Still, the fact that this trait is back shows that some trends are too good to be forgotten.

How does this brand-new feature work, then? To add a song to a user’s profile, all they have to do is go to “Edit Profile” and click “Add music to your profile.” After that, they can look for a song or pick one from the “For You” part, then pick a 30-second clip to show. The song stays on the page until the user changes it, which makes for a changing audio presence. It’s a good thing that songs won’t play instantly when someone visits your page. They have to click the play button to hear them.

Instagram worked with singer Sabrina Carpenter to push this feature. Carpenter gave fans a sneak peek of her song “Taste.” This relationship comes after a well-known one between Meta and Taylor Swift earlier this year. It shows how Instagram is trying to mix music and social media in new and interesting ways.
