On Saturday, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled a $1.5 billion fresh aid package for Ukraine. The declaration was issued in Switzerland during a two-day summit on peace with Ukraine. The primary goals of this package are to support Ukraine’s energy industry and offer vital humanitarian aid.
Important elements of the help package consist of:
- $500 million in fresh funds allocated for energy support.
- $324 million was transferred to financing for emergency energy.
According to the White House, “This funding will expand power generation, protect energy infrastructure, encourage private sector investment, and repair energy infrastructure damaged during the war.” By promoting recovery and repair, enhancing Ukraine’s resistance to interruptions in its energy supply, and creating the framework for future system expansion and repair, these initiatives will assist Ukraine in responding to Russia’s most recent attacks on its energy infrastructure.”
Harris also disclosed plans for the State Department to work with the US Congress to allocate an additional $300 million for civilian security assistance in Ukraine. This will help keep Ukrainian border guards and law enforcement equipped with life-saving gear.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly urged partners to provide more assistance, especially in light of Russia’s escalating attacks in the Kharkiv region. In February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
