The Kremlin has accused outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden of intensifying the Ukraine conflict by allegedly authorizing Kyiv to target Russia’s Kursk region using American weapons. While the White House has not confirmed the decision, a German government spokesperson revealed they were informed of the move.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov criticized the alleged authorization, calling it an attempt to “fuel the fire” and worsen tensions. Russia’s Defense Ministry described the action as “direct involvement by the United States and its allies in hostilities against Russia.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the development, which he had requested for months. In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of “appropriate measures” in response, emphasizing Russia’s right to supply its own weapons to counter any threat posed by U.S. arms.
President Biden, attending the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, has not commented on the accusations. This development could escalate the war in Ukraine further, with significant repercussions for global diplomacy and security.
