Trump to Delay TikTok Ban on First Day in Office

Read Time:57 Second

President-elect Donald Trump plans to postpone the nationwide TikTok ban by signing an executive order on his first day in office. In an interview with NBC News, Trump said he is considering a 90-day extension to the current deadline, giving TikTok’s Chinese parent company more time to secure a sale to a non-Chinese buyer.

“This is a significant decision, and the 90-day extension seems appropriate,” Trump stated. He added that the final announcement would likely be made on Monday after further review of the situation.

The delay comes after the Supreme Court allowed the ban to proceed, rejecting TikTok’s argument that the move violates users’ First Amendment rights. The proposed extension would temporarily prevent the app from being banned across the United States.

Trump’s decision provides a critical window for TikTok to resolve its ownership issues and avoid removal from U.S. app stores. Millions of American users could see continued access to the platform if a resolution is reached.

With this development, Trump’s administration aims to address the national security concerns surrounding TikTok while allowing time for a potential solution to emerge.
