Donald Trump will deliver an online speech to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on January 23, just days after his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on January 20. The announcement highlights the global interest in Trump’s return to the White House.
Digital Participation Confirmed
WEF President Borge Brende confirmed Trump’s participation, stating, “He will join us digitally. This will provide a unique opportunity to understand the priorities of the new administration.” Brende shared the news during a briefing on the forum, set to convene world leaders and top business executives in the Swiss Alps.
This year’s event, centered around the theme “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age,” promotes multilateral cooperation, a stark contrast to Trump’s America-first stance, potentially setting the stage for lively debate.
Prominent Leaders to Attend
The forum will feature over 350 high-ranking officials and 900 business leaders, with notable speakers including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky will address the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, amid concerns about Trump’s pledge to expedite peace, which could involve significant territorial concessions.
Economic and Trade Concerns
Trump’s economic policies, including past trade wars with China and proposed tariffs on allies like the European Union, are expected to take center stage. His return to the White House has sparked global discussions about the potential economic impact, particularly fears of inflation fueled by protectionist measures.
The forum will also tackle Middle Eastern issues, with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa, and Iranian Vice President Mohammad Javad Zarif among the key participants. Syria’s interim foreign minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, will also attend following the recent overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad.
Revisiting Davos Legacy
Trump’s previous appearances at Davos in 2018 and 2020 marked a significant U.S. presidential presence, shaping discussions on global economics and geopolitics. His policies continue to resonate, influencing leaders such as Argentine President Javier Milei, who will return to the forum after his notable debut in 2024.
As Trump prepares to outline his vision for America and its role on the global stage, his virtual address at Davos is poised to be a focal point, sparking dialogue on international cooperation, trade, and political leadership in the year ahead.
