Surprisingly, former President Donald Trump has sided with former Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy against Rep. Matt Rosendale of the Freedom Caucus in the Montana US Senate contest. Through Truth Social, Trump offered his support, calling Sheehy a “American Hero” and stressing the support of well-known Republicans.
Rosendale, a newcomer to the contest but a devoted Trump supporter, was the target of Trump’s backing for Sheehy. Though Trump has admiration for Rosendale, he thinks Sheehy is the most qualified opponent of Sen. Jon Tester.
With a background in business and ranching, Sheehy is a political newbie who has gained the backing of influential people like Senators Marco Rubio and Tom Cotton as well as Governor Kristi Noem.
Sheehy’s outsider status and conservative beliefs were emphasized by Trump, who portrayed him as the perfect opponent of Democratic policy.
Rosendale responded by restating his support for Trump’s objectives and claiming that his own campaign is the real representation of Trump’s ideas. Rep. Matt Gaetz and Sen. Mike Lee are among the leaders who have endorsed Rosendale, who is still optimistic that he can win the primary and defeat Jon Tester.
On June 4, the Republican primary for the Senate in Montana is expected to include a fierce competition between Sheehy and Rosendale, who are both vying to be the legitimate successor to Donald Trump.
