Threads of Meta Reach 200 Million Users, Gazing Towards One Billion

Read Time:1 Minute, 50 Second

Adam Mosseri, an executive at Meta, said that the Threads app had surpassed 200 million users, marking a noteworthy milestone. This accomplishment highlights the app’s explosive growth and comes only one day after CEO Mark Zuckerberg alluded to it during the business’s most recent earnings conference.

Since its inception a year ago, Threads has expanded more quickly than any of Meta’s other products. Last month, Zuckerberg said that Threads had 175 million users. The CEO of Meta voiced hope for Threads’ future as the app marked its one-year anniversary, speculating that it would develop into the company’s next billion-user platform.

“We’ve been working on this company for 20 years, and growing a billion-person app is not something that happens very often,” Zuckerberg said. “There’s obviously a lot of work in between now and then.”

Threads’ quick development is essential to Meta’s ambitions to someday make money off the app. At the moment, Threads doesn’t have a clear business plan or advertisements. “All these new products, we ship them, and then there’s a multi-year time horizon between scaling them and then scaling them into not just consumer experiences but very large businesses,” Zuckerberg said, emphasizing the importance of a long-term plan.

Taking advantage of the continuous upheaval and controversy surrounding X, Threads has positioned itself as a substitute platform. Still, Meta is honing its strategy for setting Threads apart. Zuckerberg and Mosseri have both emphasized that they want to refrain from endorsing political content unless users specifically ask for it. The Information said that this strategy has caused internal debates at Meta.

Even with its popularity, Threads finds it difficult to stay up to date with breaking news and current affairs. The “for you” algorithm in the app has drawn flak for being slow to provide updates on time. In a recent Threads post, Mosseri recognized the problem and said, “We’re definitely not fast enough yet, and we’re actively working to get better there.”

Meta’s primary focus will be on improving Threads’ functionality and creating a viable business plan as the app’s user base grows. The road for Threads is only getting started, with Zuckerberg’s goal of attaining one billion users.
