Meta’s Threads app is expanding its features with a new media tab, photo tagging, and a global rollout of the markup tool, bringing it closer to Instagram’s functionality.
According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the media tab will highlight users’ posts containing photos and videos, a long-awaited addition requested by the community. Similar features already exist on competing platforms like X and Bluesky, making this a strategic update for Threads.
Another new feature is photo tagging, allowing users to tag others in images, just like on Instagram. Users can search for handles while posting a photo, and the tags will be visible to others, encouraging more interaction.
Additionally, Threads is now making its markup tool available to all users worldwide. This feature lets users draw on posts, adding a creative touch to interactions. Initially introduced last week, it is now fully rolled out.
Meta has been consistently improving Threads to stay ahead of competitors like Bluesky. The platform has now grown to 320 million monthly users, with 100 million engaging daily. Meta is also testing ads on Threads, indicating future monetization plans. With these updates, Threads is strengthening its position in the social media landscape.
