This afternoon, Saturday, a terrible incident occurred on the A64, resulting in the closure of a large portion of the road for fourteen hours. One of the men involved needed to be airlifted to a hospital.
It wasn’t until 2:05 pm that both directions between the A1237 Huntington and A169 Malton intersections were once again open.
At 11:54 p.m. on Friday, the event happened on the A64 west of Malton, namely at the foot of Golden Hill close to Huttons Ambo. A blue Ford Focus and a silver Jaguar were involved in the crash.
Police, paramedics, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and firefighters from Malton and Pickering were among the emergency reaction teams who hurried to the area. There was a head-on crash that left both drivers with critical injuries.
Two individuals were successfully extracted from each vehicle by fire crews, and one injured was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary by Yorkshire Air Ambulance in a timely manner. By road ambulance, the second injured person was transported to the hospital.
“One driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and is assisting police with the investigation,” a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.
To help with the ongoing investigation, authorities are pleading with witnesses to come forward, especially those who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision. As soon as possible, please get in touch with the police if you have any information.
