Sweden Deploys Troops Near Russian Border

Sweden has sent 600 soldiers to the Russian border as part of its first NATO mission since joining the alliance on March 7. The troops were discreetly transported to Latvia by sea and will remain stationed there for six months, reports SVT.

This deployment aims to reinforce NATO’s presence and deter potential threats to its territorial integrity from Russia. It highlights Sweden’s commitment to enhancing security in the region during a time of heightened tensions.

This marks Sweden’s return to European peacekeeping missions, its first since participating in operations in Kosovo during the 1990s. Additionally, Sweden recently joined NATO’s Baltic Sea patrols, further emphasizing its active role in strengthening collective defense.
