Sun’s “Battle Zone” Raises Alarms Among Experts

The sun is about to enter a critical phase of its solar cycle, known as the “battle zone,” which could cause serious problems for satellites in orbit. This phase is characterized by the appearance of large coronal holes, following a peak in solar activity referred to as the “solar maximum.”

The phenomenon also marks the end of the Hale cycle, a 22-year period when the sun’s magnetic bands clash, leading to heightened solar activity. This clash causes the formation of coronal holes and dark spots, which increase the severity of solar winds.
