Romanian tennis icon and former World No. 1 Simona Halep has announced her decision to withdraw from the 2025 Australian Open due to knee and shoulder issues sustained during her recent matches in Abu Dhabi.

Halep, who had received a wild card to compete in the tournament qualifiers, prioritized her health after consulting with her team.

“It’s not what I wanted, but we decided it’s best to delay the start of my season,” Halep wrote on Instagram, as reported by News.ro. She also thanked the tournament organizers in Auckland and Australia for their support.

The two-time Grand Slam winner plans to rest and recover before returning to action. Halep has confirmed her participation in the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, scheduled for February.

Fans remain hopeful for her comeback as she continues to be a key figure in the world of tennis.
