Big name in hip-hop, Sean “Diddy” Combs, was denied bail on Tuesday after pleading not guilty to sex trafficking charges. This was a big setback for the law. The accusation against one of the most important people in music paints a shocking picture of alleged crimes that happened over many years. The 14-page document, which was made public after Combs’ arrest on September 16, charges him of racketeering plot, sex trafficking, and transporting women to work as prostitutes.
The indictment says that Combs “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to satisfy his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and hide his behavior.” The claims show a pattern of abuse that goes back to the 1990s and includes claims of sexual, physical, mental, and verbal abuse. His businesses and workers are said to have helped him hide his crimes, which included everything from sex trafficking to setting fires.
Shocking claims and “freak offs”
Combs’ claimed “freak offs,” which are long sex sessions with more than one person, are one of the scariest claims. The accusation says that threats and force were used against female victims to get them to take part in these events. Combs is said to have set up these sessions with male sex workers, which would often last for days. Combs is accused of giving drugs like ketamine and ecstasy to his victims to keep them in line.
The accusation also says that Combs recorded these sex acts without the victims’ permission and used the tapes to get them to keep quiet. The facts are very similar to what his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura said about him in a case she filed in 2023.
Raids and Weapons Seizures in March
In March 2024, police raided Combs’ houses in Miami and Los Angeles and found guns, including AR-15s with serial numbers that had been tampered with, as well as a lot of “freak off supplies,” such as drugs and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant. During this raid, more proof reportedly connected to his sex trafficking business was found.
The Cassie Ventura incident and other claims of assault
The accusation also talks about an incident that happened in 2016 involving Ventura. In that incident, Combs was caught on camera hitting, kicking, and throwing things at her in a Los Angeles hotel. Combs is said to have tried to pay a hotel security guard to keep the event quiet. The paper shows a larger pattern of abuse, including several attacks on women and other people starting in 2009.
Using violence and fire to keep victims in line
The most shocking part of the accusation is that it says Combs used violence, such as setting things on fire and making threats, to keep victims and witnesses under control. However, Combs is said to have threatened to blow up rapper Kid Cudi’s car during Ventura’s short relationship with him in 2012, though no names are given. This case makes me think of that event. Soon after, Cudi’s car suddenly blew up in his garage.
Defense and No Bail
Marc Agnifilo, Combs’ lawyer, says that his client is innocent and that Combs is confident and happy despite the serious claims against him. Agnifilo was upset that the U.S. Attorney chose to pursue what he called “an unjust prosecution.” He said that Combs was a self-made businessman and philanthropist who cared deeply about his family and the Black community.
Combs tried to get out of jail by giving his Miami home as security for a $50 million bond. His lawyers also suggested that he wear a GPS watch and only go to New York City and Miami. The court turned down the cash offer, though, and Combs stayed in jail until his trial.
A court case is coming up
As Combs gets ready for what is sure to be a very public hearing, his lawyers are asking people not to judge him until all the facts are known. The case has already had a big effect on his career. Because of the accusations, several business deals have been put on hold.
