Russian Drone Attack Damages Ukrainian Parliament

On January 1, 2025, a Russian drone strike targeted Kiev’s Pechersky district, killing two civilians and damaging key administrative buildings of the Ukrainian Parliament. Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk confirmed the attack and shared images showing shattered windows and broken plaster in the buildings that house the Verkhovna Rada’s commissions and departments.

The damage is still being assessed, and efforts are underway to restore functionality to Parliament amid the ongoing conflict. The strike occurred just 50 meters from President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office and 300 meters from the main Parliament building, where sessions continue despite daily Russian missile and drone attacks.

Moscow has repeatedly threatened to target Kiev’s decision-making centers, making this strike part of its broader campaign to disrupt Ukraine’s leadership. Ukrainian forces intercept many of these attacks, but the constant threat looms large.

Stefanchuk pledged that Parliament would remain operational despite the setback, with quick action being taken to ensure minimal disruption. This attack highlights the ongoing risks to Ukraine’s governmental infrastructure, intensifying calls for international support as Russia’s aggression continues.
