Russia-US Diplomatic Talks Planned

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

Moscow – The Kremlin announced Wednesday that Russia and the United States are organizing expert-level discussions following a recent high-level meeting and phone conversation between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed there’s mutual understanding that Putin and Trump should meet in person, though specifics about timing and location remain undetermined. Peskov noted that another call between the leaders could be arranged if needed, but no current plans exist.

“Foreign ministries are coordinating expert-level contacts,” Peskov stated without providing additional details.

Trump has expressed intentions to negotiate a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, marking a departure from the Biden administration’s approach. His quick efforts to improve relations with Moscow have generated worries in Kyiv and among European allies concerned about potential marginalization.

Putin has advocated for a measured approach, indicating that initial US-Russia talks would concentrate on rebuilding trust rather than immediately addressing the Ukraine situation.

Peskov offered no comment on reports of a US-Ukraine minerals agreement, which Trump claims would help American taxpayers recover funds provided to Kyiv during the conflict. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is scheduled to meet with Trump on Friday, though the meeting’s purpose remains unclear.

According to a source familiar with the draft agreement, it contains no US security guarantees or additional military assistance but reaffirms Washington’s commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty.

As diplomatic initiatives progress, attention remains focused on forthcoming developments in US-Russia relations.
