Daniel Ricciardo, the charismatic Australian Formula 1 driver, may have completed his final race but could maintain ties with the sport through a potential ambassadorial role with Red Bull. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s team advisor, has confirmed the team is exploring this possibility following Ricciardo’s emotional farewell at the Singapore Grand Prix.
At 35, Ricciardo recently lost his position on the Red Bull reserve team to make way for Liam Lawson, who will join Yuki Tsunoda for the remainder of the 2024 season. Lawson’s tenure begins at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Ricciardo’s peers gave him a heartfelt send-off after his 16th-place finish in Singapore, honoring his long and successful career.
In an interview with Formula1.de’s YouTube channel, Marko revealed Red Bull’s interest in keeping Ricciardo involved in a new capacity. He highlighted Ricciardo’s enduring popularity, particularly in the United States, suggesting an ambassadorial role could be an excellent fit. However, Ricciardo has not yet committed to any future plans, preferring to take time to contemplate his next move after 13 years in F1.
Marko speculated that Ricciardo is unlikely to transition to another racing series. This aligns with Ricciardo’s own expressed uncertainty about finding fulfillment in other forms of racing. In Singapore, he admitted that the prospect of competing in IndyCar “scares” him, and he’s unsure if another racing career could match the satisfaction he found in Formula 1.
Ricciardo acknowledged his ongoing competitive drive but questioned whether other motorsport opportunities or PR activities associated with an ambassadorial role would truly satisfy his competitive nature.
As Ricciardo contemplates his future, the F1 community eagerly awaits his decision, ready to support the popular Australian in whatever role he chooses, whether it’s on or off the track.
