Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Vladimir Putin of ramping up attacks in an effort to hinder Donald Trump’s potential peace efforts. Following Russia’s threat to use Oreshnik intercontinental ballistic missiles on Ukraine’s vital decision-making targets, Zelenskyy suggested that Putin aims to undermine Trump’s chances of resolving the conflict.
As Trump prepares to re-enter the White House in January, he has promised to end the war within 24 hours, though no clear plan has been presented. The Ukraine-Russia war will enter its third year in February, highlighting the continued global challenge of ending the conflict.
“Putin’s goal is to escalate the situation now to block President Trump’s peace initiatives. He wants to force Trump to accept Russian terms,” Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
The comments come as the international community questions whether Trump can effectively manage the complex war. Putin’s actions signal a dangerous game of influence over the war’s outcome, as global leaders push for a resolution.
