Walmart unveiled a ground-breaking program today that aims to bring back fond childhood memories for its patrons. This unique trip, dubbed “Walmart’s Summer Rewind,” claims to take visitors back to the carefree era of the early 2000s.
The Summer Rewind tour will take place in 33 cities around the country and provide guests with a nostalgic look back at Walmart’s legendary past. Families will have the opportunity to revisit treasured moments in their local Walmart parking lots starting in Austin, Texas, on August 18.
A reproduction of the cherished Walmart stores from the past serves as the focal point of the experience. An enormous Smiley entryway, evoking the retailer’s initial emoji, will welcome guests. Once inside, they’ll find a veritable treasure trove of vintage goodies, such as a life-size toy box for mementos worthy of a lifetime and a freezer speakeasy filled with summertime treats.
The opportunity to enter the renowned Walmart ball cage and live your childhood fantasies is arguably the highlight of the Summer Rewind trip. Participants can also interact with interactive pieces like a massive Lite Brite and a group paint project that bring back memories of art school.
The retail behemoth is hosting a number of community-focused events, the most recent of which is Summer Rewind. Earlier programs that have brought families together for lifelong memories are the Homecoming concert series and Summer Drive-In movies.
