In London, United Kingdom: A lot of people who support the Palestinians came together in London on Saturday to demand that the UK government stop sending weapons to Israel. Protesters marched from central London to the Israeli embassy with signs that said “Liberate Palestine” and called for stronger action against Israeli military operations. About 25,000 people took part in the event.
The protests happen just a few days after the UK government stopped 30 licenses to send guns to Israel. On September 3, Foreign Secretary David Lammy told parliament that the choice was made because there was a high chance that the shipped weapons would be used to break international humanitarian law. But some people say the ban isn’t enough because over 320 IDs are still valid.
A protester named Abbas Sadiq was unhappy and said, “We want full sanctions on Israel.” “Putting 30 companies on hold isn’t enough.”
London police put limits on the protest to keep things from getting out of hand, but some protesters were arrested during the event. Even though there were some tense moments, the event was mostly calm, and the leaders stressed how important it is to keep the public pressure up until all arms sales to Israel stop.
There has been a lot of disagreement about the UK’s arms trade with Israel. Many people want to stop all sales of military weapons because of the ongoing battles in the area.
As the problem gets more attention around the world, protesters in the UK keep trying to get the government to do more to deal with it.
