A major winter storm has dumped considerable snow across the Philadelphia region, prompting the issuance of a Winter Storm Warning. The alert was issued at four in the morning on Friday and will stay in force until ten at night.
Warnings and Recommendations:
Starting at 4 a.m. on Friday and running until 10 p.m., a Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning are in effect for a large portion of the Philadelphia region, as well as portions of Delaware and New Jersey.
Snowfall Calendar:
By 6 a.m., snowfall started, and it was predicted to get heavier through the middle of the morning and into the afternoon. We predict slick commuter conditions. There will be snowfall all day long, with a tapering off between 6 and 8 p.m.
Snow Emergency:
At seven in the morning, Philadelphia declared a snow emergency, requiring all vehicles to be transported along designated emergency routes. Vehicles parked illegally may be towed and issued tickets.
Impact of Travel:
Travel is made more difficult by reports of hazardous road conditions. The city prioritises clearing snow off of the streets, sending out over 400 pieces of machinery and asking citizens to utilise PlowPHL for up-to-date information.
Snow Buildup:
Three to six inches of snow are predicted, however isolated places may see more. The winter storm has lowered the speed limit to 45 mph on a number of roads.
Airport Operations and SEPTA:
SEPTA keeps a regular timetable but issues a delay notice. Before arriving at the airport, travellers are advised by Philadelphia International Airport to verify the status of their flights and the state of the roads.
Garages for parking:
During the snow emergency, the Philadelphia Parking Authority offers a subsidised $5 parking cost at a few facilities.
Trash Gathering:
rubbish collections have been suspended due to snow buildup; households are encouraged to hang onto their rubbish until next week or to use sanitation convenience centres.
PGW Emergency Helpline:
For reporting gas leaks or emergencies, the 24-hour Emergency Hotline (215-235-1212) of Philadelphia Gas Works is still active.
Outreach to the Homeless and Code Blue:
Initiating a Code Blue has led to a round-the-clock effort to assist individuals in need. Extra beds are supplied for homeless people when it’s chilly outside.
Closing of Schools:
Friday is a closed day for parochial primary schools, archdiocesan high schools, and the Philadelphia School District.
Closures of City and Court Buildings:
Courts and city offices in Philadelphia are closed to the public. While individuals who are able to do so continue to work virtually, essential workers are required to report on-site.
