According to a 4Warn Weather update, Southeast Lower Michigan has been blanketed in heavy advection fog since Tuesday night, severely reducing visibility to less than a quarter of a mile in many places.

Tuesday afternoon’s freezing rain has given way to advection fog in the area as warm air interacts with the icy, cold ground. There is a thick fog forming due to the warm, humid weather, and it is predicted to last until Wednesday morning.

It is expected that overnight lows will remain above freezing, allaying fears of freezing fog. On secondary roads that haven’t been treated, caution is advised because they can still be icy.

Travel delays on Wednesday morning are possible due to the combination of poor visibility and icy roads, especially in low-lying locations. It is recommended that commuters proceed with caution and make appropriate plans when navigating through the foggy conditions.
