Oil Leak Detected at Shell’s Singapore Pipeline

Read Time:46 Second

A pipeline operated by Shell experienced an oil leak in Singapore waters between Bukom and Bukom Kecil islands on Sunday morning, as confirmed by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore.

The incident prompted immediate response actions, with Shell deploying containment equipment while MPA launched a comprehensive monitoring operation using drones and satellites. Response teams successfully halted the leak and established containment booms to control the spill’s spread. Special vessels equipped with dispersants were mobilized to treat the affected waters.

Monitoring throughout Sunday evening revealed no additional oil presence, though vessels were instructed to avoid the area as a precaution. Maritime traffic remained unaffected by the incident.

While Shell maintains a significant refining facility on Bukom island, the company has not released an official statement regarding the leak. This incident follows a previous oil spill in June that affected Sentosa Island’s beaches.

Cleanup operations continue as authorities maintain close surveillance of the situation.
