Notice of Delays Before the Latest M25 Stretch Closure

Read Time:1 Minute, 35 Second

Due to the most recent scheduled shutdown of a portion of the M25, drivers are advised to anticipate considerable delays. Between Surrey’s junctions 10 and 11, the motorway will be closed from Friday from 21:00 BST until Monday at 6:00 BST. This weekend’s closure on the M25 is the third of five planned ones this year. The £317 million project’s goal is to improve traffic flow and lessen congestion.

“With many football fans changing their plans following England’s victory over Holland, it’s likely to be extremely busy in and around London,” said Chris Wood of the AA. He recommended drivers to make appropriate travel plans, stay off the west side of the M25 wherever possible, and check the websites of the ferry and tunnel operators for updates prior to leaving.

The closure will make it easier to erect a new bridge at the intersection of Wisley and 10th. The project will add more lanes to junction 10, one of the busiest and riskiest motorway intersections in the UK, when it is completed in the summer of 2025.

On weekends, the M25 between junctions 9 (Leatherhead) and 11 (Chertsey) sees between 4,000 and 6,000 cars pass through each way every hour from 10:00 to 21:00. Road users heading to and from Dover for cross-Channel ferry services, Gatwick Airport in West Sussex, and Heathrow Airport in London would be impacted by the closure. The RAC advised people to depart airports “even earlier than usual” and announced the implementation of diversion routes.

National Highways warned that some vehicles may be directed by their satnavs onto smaller roads after exiting the M25, which might lead to traffic jams in residential areas. Later in the year, the project’s final two weekend closures will take place.

To avoid as much interruption as possible during these closures, travelers are recommended to prepare ahead and stay informed.
