Norwalk Closes I-95 After Tractor-Trailer Fire

Read Time:1 Minute, 16 Second

Norwalk, Connecticut – A violent incident involving many vehicles, including two tractor-trailers carrying a substantial amount of gasoline, caused Interstate 95 to come to a complete stop on Thursday morning. The incident happened in the southbound lanes close to Exits 15 and 16 at around 5:30 in the morning.

It has been verified by officials that the shutdown will probably be in place for a considerable amount of time—possibly two to five days. Authorities asked commuters to be patient and suggested that people try to work from home whenever feasible as well as avoid making needless trips through the impacted region.

Although no significant injuries were reported, the number of accidents that followed increased. Since gasoline leaked into catch basins close to Interstate 95, the main issue now is the environmental damage, which prompted a thorough cleanup operation involving marine units.

Even though the bridge’s structural integrity is considered solid, inspections are planned because of the damages that have occurred. Eversource workers are also on the scene taking care of issues with a gas line that was impacted by the event.

The local school system was also affected by the closure, which resulted in major delays in the morning bus service. For updates, parents are advised to use tracking applications or get in touch with the bus company directly.

To handle the crisis, transportation agencies, state and local authorities, and others are working together. There will be updates all day long, and the next briefing is set for 1:30 p.m.
