Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, has addressed allegations about his upcoming reality game show, Beast Games, calling them “blown out of proportion.” The YouTube star made the statement on X (formerly Twitter) after a fan inquired about the claims.
The allegations stem from a September lawsuit filed against Amazon and MrBeast’s company, MrB2024. The lawsuit claims that contestants on Beast Games, which features 1,000 participants competing for a $5 million grand prize, were mistreated during filming. Allegations include unsafe conditions, lack of proper care, and instances of sexual harassment.
MrBeast remains confident about the show, promising to release behind-the-scenes footage to counter the accusations once the show premieres next month.
Legal Allegations
The lawsuit was filed by five anonymous contestants representing the entire cast, accusing the production of unsafe working conditions and mistreatment. Claims include pyrotechnic hazards, underfeeding, exhaustion, and sexual misconduct.
The lawsuit names Amazon, MrB2024, and production company Off One’s Base LLP. While Amazon and MrBeast have not yet commented, BBC Newsbeat has reached out for statements.
MrBeast’s Defense
In response to the allegations, MrBeast stated on X that behind-the-scenes content would be shared once the show airs to debunk the claims. He emphasized that he couldn’t release this content ahead of time to avoid spoiling the game.
MrBeast, who has described Beast Games as his most ambitious project yet, released a teaser showcasing daring challenges, including contestants jumping from helicopters and navigating pirate ships.
Other Challenges
The lawsuit adds to the controversies surrounding MrBeast in 2024. Earlier, his former co-host, Ava Kris Tyson, faced accusations of inappropriate messages to a minor. Tyson denied grooming claims but acknowledged making “bad edgy jokes.” An investigation by MrBeast’s team found the allegations without basis but confirmed instances of workplace misconduct.
