Millions of Australians will get more money from Centrelink

Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

When Centrelink payouts go up on September 20, more than 5 million Australians will get extra money. About 5.1 million people on income support will be affected by this change. It is part of the government’s twice-yearly indexation process, which is meant to help people who are having a hard time with the rising cost of living.

Because of the price hikes, the age pension, the disability support pension, and the caregiver payment will all go up by $28.10 per week for single people and $42.40 per week for couples. Commonwealth Rent Assistance will also be increased by 10%, which means that single users will get an extra $23 every two weeks and families with up to two children will get an extra $27.02 every two weeks. Single parents’ payments will also go up by $19.80, taking the amount they pay every two weeks to $1,026.30.

Payments for JobSeeker will go up by $15.30 a week, and people who are rated as partially able to work between 0 and 14 hours will get a higher rate of JobSeeker, which will raise their payments by $71.20 a week.

These changes are very important for Australians with low incomes who are having a hard time because of rising prices and inflation. Amanda Rishworth, Minister of Social Services, said that the changes, especially to rent support, are meant to lower the cost of living. “Our changes to rent assistance have actually helped lower inflation by preventing rents from rising even higher,” she added.

When these changes go into action on September 20, they will help millions of Australians with their finances, making it easier for them to handle their costs in an economy that is getting worse.
