Meta Removes Celebrity Jet-Tracking Social Media Accounts

Read Time:32 Second

Meta has taken action to remove accounts on Instagram and Threads that monitored private aircraft movements, including those belonging to high-profile figures such as Taylor Swift, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg. The decision came after Meta’s independent Oversight Board raised concerns about privacy and potential security risks.

The accounts were operated by college student Jack Sweeney, who has faced similar challenges on other platforms. Notably, he was previously suspended from X (formerly Twitter) for tracking Elon Musk’s private jet movements. Despite mounting obstacles, including increased regulatory scrutiny and legal pressure from celebrities’ attorneys, Sweeney continues his tracking activities through various research methods and insider information.
