Meta hides warning labels for images that have been edited by AI

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

Meta is going to make it harder to spot pictures on Facebook that were changed by AI starting next week. Before, pictures that were changed with AI tools had a label that was easy to see. But now, people who want to know if a picture has been changed will have to go to the “information” page. To get to this information, users must click on a post’s three-dot button, scroll down, and choose “AI Info.”

Even with these changes, pictures made with AI tools will still be clearly labeled, with a tag that says “AI Info” right on the post. When you click on this marking, it will show you whether the picture was flagged because of signals from the industry or because the content creator wanted to be honest.

Meta changed its labels earlier this year to include a bigger range of AI-made material, such as audio and video. But shooters complained that the labels were wrong, so Meta changed the “Made with AI” title to “AI Info.”

Meta says these changes are meant to show how AI is being used more and more in content creation. Still, since fake pictures are often used to spread false information, especially around election times, the fact that AI changing tips are harder to see may make it harder to spot fake news.

This change could make it harder for users to tell the difference between real and fake material.
