A vast black cloud of smoke could be seen for miles around an Evri package facility in Avonmouth, Bristol, where a major fire broke out. Witnesses claim to have seen thick smoke and orange flames coming from the distribution center, which has caused traffic jams nearby.
Images and videos show how intense the fire is, according to reports, indicating that it is a serious conflagration. As emergency personnel attempt to contain the fire, worries about possible evacuations loom.
Avon Fire & Rescue has dispatched 16 fire teams and appliances to the area, while the origin and precise timing of the incident are still under investigation. Residents in the area are advised to close their doors and windows to protect themselves from the harsh smoke.
On social media, Avon Fire and Rescue has been updating people to exercise caution and stay away from the impacted area around St Andrews Road, Avonmouth. The fire is also causing significant traffic problems on the A403 St Andrew’s Road and the M5 motorway.
A representative for Evri has confirmed that everyone present is safe and that the fire has been put out. To reduce the amount of disturbance to delivery in the upcoming days, plans are in place for substitute arrangements. The investigation into what started the fire is scheduled to start.
