Liz Truss Thought About Sacking Leaders of the Bank of England

Read Time:53 Second

In her soon-to-be published book Ten Years to Save the West, former prime minister Liz Truss said that, during her brief term, she thought about firing the heads of the Treasury and the Bank of England and dismantling the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).

Truss referred to the economic establishment, which she said had been responsible for a three-decade drift in economic policy, as a “three-headed hydra,” and portrayed this action as confronting it. She considered taking a daring stance, but in the end she just fired Tom Scholar, the Treasury’s permanent secretary.

Despite criticism for the mini-budget she imposed, Truss argues that her ideas were intended to save billions of dollars and satisfy Conservative platform objectives. Her book is expected to provide details about her tenure as president, particularly her response to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and her interactions with King Charles.

The information gleaned from Truss’s book illuminates her approach to political strategy and economic policy, as well as her brief but dramatic time as prime minister.
