Veteran broadcaster Hazel Irvine is set to receive the prestigious Bafta Scotland lifetime achievement award for her exceptional contributions to broadcasting. The ceremony will take place in Glasgow on November 17, 2024, celebrating her remarkable career in sports journalism.

Throughout her three-decade journey, which began at Scotsport on STV in 1987, Irvine has become a familiar voice in British sports broadcasting. She has expertly guided viewers through numerous high-profile events, including the Olympics, World Cup, Wimbledon, and London Marathon. Her Olympic commentary reached its pinnacle during the 2012 London Games, where she captivated 28 million listeners.

“I feel overwhelmed and honoured to join the list of Scottish actors, presenters, and directors who have received this award,” Irvine said upon learning of the recognition. Bafta Scotland commended her pioneering role in breaking barriers for women in sports journalism.

The ceremony will also recognize Des Hamilton, an accomplished casting director known for his work on Top Boy and his innovative street-casting approach. Hamilton will receive the Bafta Scotland Award for Outstanding Contribution to Craft, acknowledging his two decades of excellence in film and television casting.
