The highly anticipated Leagues Cup final battle has been confirmed. Both LAFC and Columbus earned their spots after beating their opponents in the semifinals on Wednesday night.
Columbus made it to the finals for the third time since the beginning of the season, and they have a chance to win their second prize. Diego Rossi and Cucho Hernandez, a powerful duo, showed how dangerous they are on offense, driving Columbus to a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Union. They played so well that there was no need for a return; the game was pretty much over with almost 40 minutes left.
At the same time, LAFC kept up their strong play and easily qualified for the final. Two goals in the first half set the tone, and Denis Bouanga’s goal in the second half put the Black and Gold at the top of the table. A late goal from new player Lewis O’Brien sealed a 4-0 win over Denver, giving LAFC an amazing 13-1 record in the playoff round.
With this win, LAFC has been to five cup finals since 2022, making them even more of a force in Major League Soccer. Now the stage is set for an exciting MLS Cup Final repeat between these two soccer giants.
As the 2024 Leagues Cup comes to an end, the final will be held in Columbus on Sunday. Fans can expect a fight that is intense and dramatic.
