With the introduction of KitKat “Breaks for Good,” Nestlé—a leader in the food and beverage business globally—continues to demonstrate its dedication to sustainability. Made entirely of sustainable cocoa through the Growers Income Acceleration Program (IAP), this new chocolate bar is a testament to Nestlé’s commitment to improving the lives of those who grow cocoa. The project seeks to decrease the danger of child labor, close income inequalities for the families of cocoa growers, and advance sustainable agricultural methods.

Introducing KitKat “Breaks for Good”:

This month, in 27 European nations, the company’s newest product, “Breaks for Good,” will be available in stores. In May 2024, it will be released in the UK. A limited edition KitKat with 70% dark chocolate, also from the IAP, has been experimentally introduced in the British market in addition to the 100% sustainable cocoa bar.

Sustainability at the Core:

Nestlé’s larger objectives are aided by the “Breaks for Good” program, which is a noteworthy step towards sustainability. High traceability criteria are met by the cocoa acquired through the IAP, guaranteeing a “preserved mixed identity” that permits distinct cocoa tracing and storage. By the middle of 2024, Nestlé intends to include “segregated cocoa” butter in every KitKat sold in Europe. After that, the company hopes to expand globally.

Encouraging Cocoa Farmers:

Since its founding in January 2022, Nestlé’s IAP has worked to promote optimal agricultural practices and increase public knowledge of the sustainability of cocoa. Through the implementation of sound agricultural techniques, agroforestry, gender equality, education, and diversification of revenue streams, the initiative enables families that grow cocoa.

Positive Impact and Expansion:

Since its launch, Nestlé’s income acceleration program has helped more than 10,000 households in Ivory Coast. In the upcoming year, it will extend to Ghana with the goal of assisting 30,000 people overall. The initiative intends to significantly alter the cocoa supply chain by reaching about 160,000 cocoa grower households worldwide by 2030.

Financial Incentives and Support:

Nestlé wants to establish a completely traceable cocoa supply chain through the IAP. For the first two years, participating families can get up to 500 euros yearly; after that, they can receive 250 euros annually. According to reports from Nestlé’s suppliers, the program’s cocoa growers’ families have been receiving incentives totaling almost two million euros since January 2022.

Key Partnerships:

Cargill is a major supporter of Nestlé’s long-term objectives, which further bolsters the company’s commitment to sustainability. Cargill helps make Nestlé’s IAP successful by storing cocoa in its warehouse at the port of Hamburg.

The KitKat “Breaks for Good” campaign by Nestlé represents a significant turning point in the company’s development of sustainable and ethical sourcing practices. Nestlé wants to positively influence cocoa growing communities through the expansion of the IAP, guaranteeing a better and more sustainable future for producers and customers alike.
