Israel has confirmed it will not withdraw its forces from the Gaza-Egypt border area known as the Philadelphi Corridor, despite previous expectations of a pullback in early March if the current ceasefire were extended beyond its Saturday expiration.
According to Israeli media reports, officials have taken a firm stance, stating “We will not exit the Philadelphi Corridor.” Israel cites security concerns that Hamas could use this 14-kilometer (8-mile) border strip for weapons smuggling operations.

The Israeli military established control over this strategic area in May, with original plans indicating a withdrawal during a potential second phase of the truce agreement. It remains uncertain whether negotiations for this next phase have actually commenced.
This position adds complexity to the ongoing ceasefire discussions between the parties. The situation continues to develop.
