David Hollick, 29, sobbed in an agonizing scene at Birmingham Crown Court today after being found guilty of manslaughtering his six-month-old baby Kairo and given a 15-year prison sentence. Hollick had earlier stated that an unintentional fall in February 2020 caused Kairo’s severe injuries, which included irreversible brain damage.

But it came to light throughout the trial that Hollick had steadfastly refused to tell what had actually happened to his kid. He was found guilty of manslaughter even though he was exonerated of murder charges. At Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Kairo passed dead in his mother’s arms from the severity of his injuries, which included two complicated skull fractures and an arm fracture.

Adina Johnson, Kairo’s mother, detailed her anguish and sorrow in an emotional impact statement, remembering the final hours she had with her son. She denounced the abuse done to Kairo and stressed that he should be protected under his father’s supervision.

As she handed down the punishment, Justice Dove criticized Hollick’s behavior, calling it a hideous violation of parental duty and drawing attention to Kairo’s fragility. The judge underlined that Hollick’s actions constituted a grave transgression of his parental duties to Kairo.

Kairo’s family expressed gratitude to the medical professionals for their treatment and the investigation team for their support during the previous four years, following the sentencing. The homicide unit’s Chief Inspector Laura Harrison sent her sympathies to Kairo’s family, recognizing the unfathomable loss they still have to deal with.
