Former President Donald Trump attacked Vice President Kamala Harris viciously during his first rally following President Joe Biden’s shocking withdrawal from the campaign, calling her a “radical left lunatic” who advocates the “execution” of kids. At the North Carolina event, which served as a pivotal point in the 2024 presidential contest, Trump directed his caustic remarks towards his newly discovered Democratic rival.
Trump’s Charges
Trump asserted, in front of an enraged audience, that Harris is in favor of late-term abortions, saying that she favors “abortions in the eighth and ninth month of pregnancy” and even “right up until birth and after birth, the execution of a baby.” The audience applauded loudly after these provocative comments.
“She’s a crazy radical leftist who will ruin our nation,” Trump said, reiterating his vow to keep her out of office. Reassuring his followers, “We’re not going to let that happen,”
Biden’s Support for Harris
Following President Biden’s historic decision to withdraw from the campaign and support Harris as his successor, Trump held his rally. After coming under more and more fire for his advanced age at 81, Biden decided to step down and support the vice president, who is 59 years old.
With Biden’s support, Harris has begun her campaign road, bringing fresh vitality to the Democratic cause. Nevertheless, Trump did not waste any time in trying to attribute her actions to “every single Biden catastrophe.”
Attacks on the Record of Harris
Trump explicitly attacked Harris’s involvement in immigration, claiming that while serving as the “border tsar,” she allowed “20 million illegal aliens to stampede into our country from all over the world.” However, this statement misrepresents the actual duties that Harris has. She was not in charge of border security, but Biden gave her the responsibility of tackling the underlying reasons of migration in Central America.
Trump called Harris “the most liberal politician ever elected in American history” and said her administration would be catastrophic for the country. He declared, “If she is ever elected [as US president], she will destroy our country.”
Public Opinion and Polls
With the 2024 election drawing near, it seems like Trump and Harris will be fighting for the same position. According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos survey, Harris leads Trump by just two percentage points, 44 to 42. In contrast, an SSRS survey for CNN found that Trump was ahead of Harris, 49% to 46%. The fact that both surveys are inside their error margins emphasizes how close the election is.
DNC Proceeds With
The rules committee of the Democratic National Committee has already decided to formally nominate Harris by August 1, which is well in advance of the party’s August 19–22 convention in Chicago. By August 7, Harris is anticipated to choose her running companion, so strengthening her candidacy.
Campaign Activities of Harris
Harris spoke to more than 6,000 black women in Indianapolis on the same day that Trump held his rally at a gathering organized by the sorority Zeta Phi Beta. In an attempt to get support from the crowd, Harris called on the powerful network of black women who had a key role in Biden’s 2020 election.
“I’m grateful. In an effort to encourage a high turnout of Democrats in November, Harris stated, “And now, in this moment, our nation needs your leadership once again.”
Trump’s Protest vs. Biden’s Speech
Notably, President Biden was supposed to give an explanation for his decision to withdraw from the race at his scheduled speech from the Oval Office, but Trump’s rally started two hours earlier. Trump said that Biden was under pressure from Democratic Party officials to resign, and he charged Harris with hiding Biden’s “mental unfitness.”
The White House refuted claims made earlier in the day that it concealed any health concerns associated with Biden’s choice.
Trump’s combative approach against Harris, as the 2024 election campaign intensifies, establishes the tone for what looks to be an extremely heated and keenly followed contest. The political scene is expected to undergo significant changes in the upcoming months due to the two candidates’ contest for the president.
