Though Hurricane Helene hasn’t officially made landfall yet, Florida is already feeling its power. Flooding, power outages, and strong winds are sweeping across the state, with things expected to get worse as the storm intensifies. Helene is forecasted to strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane by Thursday night, bringing even more destruction.
Over 70,000 people from counties like Franklin, Taylor, Liberty, and Wakulla have been told to evacuate. Coastal areas, in particular, are at high risk of dangerous flooding and severe damage. Many residents have already left, while others are staying put, hoping to ride out the storm.
Experts, including AccuWeather’s Dan DePodwin, warn that Helene could become a “once-in-a-generation” storm, making its landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region before heading toward the Tennessee Valley. The storm’s path is being closely monitored by forecasters.
