Through the beginning of next week, there will be heavy rain and the possibility of flash flooding every afternoon due to an active monsoon weather trend. According to the New Mexico weather forecast, a regular storm cycle started on Wednesday and is predicted to continue for the next few days.
Storms moved throughout New Mexico on Wednesday, bringing with them significant rains to a number of places, including Albuquerque. Although flash flood warnings were issued for the impacted areas, they were cancelled before dusk as the storms passed. Though further showers and thunderstorms are predicted to resume every afternoon and evening through the end of the week, the fleeting reprieve won’t last long.
The persistent storm activity poses a serious risk of flash floods. Areas with burn scars, like the Ruidoso area, are especially vulnerable because of the increased risk of flash floods. These areas are now under a flash flood watch that will last until Friday AM.
Over the weekend, an intensification of the monsoon weather pattern is expected. Both Saturday and Sunday afternoons will see the development of showers and storms, which might bring even more precipitation. There is a higher risk of burn scar flash flooding in the regions that stretch from the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the Sacramento Mountains. Furthermore, there is a risk of flash floods in other areas of the state. By Sunday afternoon, the increasing moisture from the monsoon will cause the temperature to drop.
It looks like there will be another busy afternoon of storms on Monday. But beginning on Tuesday, drier air will start to enter the area, which will lessen the likelihood of storm activity. Despite this, through the middle of the week, there will still be a daily possibility of storms in some sections of the state, particularly in the mountainous areas. On the other hand, drier and hotter weather may return to valleys and lower elevations.
It is urged that locals in the impacted areas stay watchful and ready for unforeseen weather changes. Risks are high due to the ongoing heavy rain and the possibility of flash flooding, particularly in areas where burn scars are already present. It is essential to follow local weather updates and pay attention to any cautions or warnings that the authorities may issue.
